The thyristor or SCR (Silicon Controlled Rectifier) is an electronic component, very similar to the diode. The only difference is that direct conduction occurs only following the application of a suitable signal on the gate terminal. The typical use of Thyristors is in controllable voltage rectifiers, they are able to supply adjustable DC voltages from a fixed AC voltage.
