CPU 8-BIT
An 8-bit microcontroller (MCU) is a tiny computer on a single chip that contains an 8-bit CPU, memory (RAM and ROM), and input/output (I/O) peripherals. They are similar to CPUs but have additional features for interacting with the outside world.
Like 8-bit CPUs, 8-bit microcontrollers can process 8 bits of data at a time. They were widely used in early electronic devices such as calculators, appliances, and even toys. They are still popular today for many reasons including:
- Low Cost: They are very inexpensive to manufacture.
- Low Power Consumption: They require very little power to operate, making them ideal for battery-powered devices.
- Simple to Use: They are relatively easy to program compared to more complex processors.
- Small Size: Their small size allows them to be used in compact devices.
Here are some examples of applications that use 8-bit microcontrollers:
- Calculators
- Appliances: washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, microwave ovens, etc.
- Toys: remote-controlled cars, robots, etc.
- Industrial control systems
- Medical devices
- Power tools
- Security systems
